Cheyenne Jackson, Cynthia Nixon, Margaret Cho, Adam Lambert & other celebs react to Prop. 8 decision
Well, it’s been 24 hours since the judicial decision overturning Proposition 8. I tried yesterday to compile as many reactions from celebs like Ellen, Ricky and Liza (are last names really needed?) but more has come in since then from noteworthy folks I think are worth hearing from:
Broadway and budding TV star Cheyenne Jackson via Advocate.com says: “Giant step forward. California dreaming, indeed. Makes me feel prouder than ever to be a strong gay man. Now come on, home state of New York… We all know that you’re the ‘concrete jungle where dreams r made of,’ so make mine come true and take the necessary steps to allow me to make it legal with my man. Step up, we believe in you.”
Two-time Emmy winner, Tony winner and Grammy winner Cynthia Nixon (via: The Advocate):
“This is an exciting moment for everyone who believes in the constitutional guarantee of equal rights for all. It’s a beautiful day in California today. New York is hoping to bask in some of that sunshine before too long. ”
Comedienne and actress Margaret Cho (via The Advocate): I’m glad about the court’s ruling that Prop. 8 is unconstitutional, but to me, this has been obvious for a long time. I am sick of having to bend to people’s “religious” views, especially when they are so hateful and insane. Now when people try to say that they don’t believe in gay marriage because of their religious beliefs, I just say “fuck you.” I think this is the proper way to deal with people like this. Please join me in my new “well fuck you then” campaign. We must have our rights. We must have equality! Fuck them.”
Singer and actor Sam Harris: This is a great and historical day. Not just for gay people. This is a human rights issue for all people and should never have been on a ballot. It’s actually a great day for America. I am overjoyed and relieved that my husband and my child, my family, are supported as equal citizens by the wisdom of the court and not subject to the contempt and ignorance of the small minded.
Some Tweets:
Adam Lambert: Prop 8 Overturned! I’m glad California has restored the right for ALL of its citizens to marry whoever they please! Equal rights are very Glam! We’re gonna throw glitter on this barn tonight!!!
Lady Gaga: At the moments notice of PROP 8 DEATH I instantly began to write music. BUBBLE DREAMS FOREVER! FULL EQUALITY! THIS IS JUST THE BEGININNG!
And, of course, we’ve got to heard from the ladies of The View:
