Cher is set to return to the big screen … in a musical with Christina Aguilera!

I love, love, love this news!

Oscar winner Cher, who has made far too few films, is teaming up with Christina Aguilera in a musical called Burlesque.

It has been an entire decade since Cher’s last significant movie role in Tea With Mussolini and she has not appeared in any film since playing a hilarious fictionalized version of herself in the comedy Stuck On You starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear.

According to Variety, Burlesque is a contemporary musical for Screen Gems. Steven Antin will direct from a script he wrote that was revised by Susannah Grant.

Here’s tbe plot: Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town Iowa girl with a big voice who comes of age in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to shine.

Cher, who will sing onscreen, seems to have lost interest in making movies shortly after she won the Academy Award in 1988 for Moonstruck. She had also starred in the hits Mask, Silkwood, The Witches of Eastwick, Suspect and Mermaids. Her spectacularly successful recording and concert career has been her main focus.

I love seeing Cher live, but she has been greatly missed as an actress.

One Remark

  1. Will Chaz be ready to play the male lead. You know I couldn’t resist that.
