Cher gets grief from Twitter followers after sharing her enthusiasm for megachurch pastor Joel Osteen
There was an unfortunate Twitter exchange that went on yesterday between Cher and some of her followers.
The icon tweeted enthusiastically about megachurch pastor Joel Osteen then it was pointed out to her that he has said on several occasions that homosexuality is a sin.
Cher seemed hurt that anyone would question her loyalty to gays: ‘Gay people have stayed with me through 40 years when everyone else left! If I broke our bond and you have no love for me anymore this is my last text. You have been my best friends! My heart has broken MANY times because I’ve lost one of you! I have sat with you until last your LAST BREATH! I will ALWAYS LUV U.’

Here we go again. For whatever reason we gay men idolize straight female singers, actors, and the like, and then freak out if they make a statement that we find the least bit offensive, (or in some cases very offensive).
Wake the &^%$ up, THEY ARE NOT GAY! They may be friends, but they are not family, they are not going to be in lock-step with us and every issue. Either accept this, or start to throw support behind our own singers, actors, and the like.

You can be Christian and gay…I should know, I’m both. Cher is allowed to like the way Osteen preaches without having to agree with him on every single issue. I think it’s very honest and open-minded of her to admit she likes him knowing there are many intolerant gays out there who will attack her for not talking smack about him. Rock on Cher!!
