Cher disses Madonna on Twitter, fans lash out

This story reminds me of a very intense debate I had with a woman at a mixer a few years back about Madonna and Cher.

I guess we both had a few drinks and really pulled out the big guns over who was a better icon, who was more authentic, who was more talented, who was more successful and blah, blah, blah.

I was pro Cher, of course, and she was pro Madonna and I’m sure we both walked away feeling as if we had triumphed.

I don’t know why it is, but Madonna has never, ever, ever done a thing for me through any of her incarnations. I’ve never had much interest in her at all and it seems like I should.

Cher, however, had me at I Got You Babe.

That brings me to a little Twitter situation that Cher found herself in yesterday when she dared to diss the Material Girl.

According to Gay Star News, Twitter followers turned on her for making a sly dig at Madonna.

‘WTF is MDNA?’, the Believe singer tweeted before posting a sarcastic comment about the record’s name once fans explained it was a play on words referring to the party drug MDMA, more commonly known as ecstacy.

‘How tasteful!’ Cher replied.

Then there was backlash before Cher tweeted that she didn’t mean to offend: ‘Doesn’t any fkng body cut slak 4 fkng mistakes! It not like I cut her heart out with a spoon! Madge & I are cool!’

I appreciate, enjoy and listen to their music especially Cher but learned a long time ago not to read…

  2. I’m with you Greg. I always found madonna to be a Cher-wannabe and
never felt she was legit. Everything about her public life feels like a controlled act, and it gets very boring and sad after awhile.

Cher has always been genuine and really is the way she comes across.
    Cher all the way, baby!!!!

There’s no contest. Cher’s far more talented as a singer and actress than Madonna. Just watching Madonna in a movie makes me cringe. She can not act. Gawd Awful!!

  4. Comparing female icons is like comparing apples to oranges.

Over the years I have had conversations about all our “girls” and many that I have spoken to were very adamant about their faves. Og course opinion will alwasy vary. Back in the late 1970’s I was shocked at how many gay people despised Barbra and were nuts over some of those Barbra wannabees like Julie Budd and Jane Oliver (who granted both have some talent).

Thankfully, each of our gay icons is very different than the other. We all have the right to have an opinion (and it is usually very strong). I think that there is room for everybody. I can’t imagine a world without the legacy of Barbra, Cher, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Diana Ross, Aretha, Judy, Bette, Cyndi, Liza or even Joni Mitchell… and may others….

The fun part is that now we have so much great material from them available on CD’s DVD’s, downloads etc, I often think of the coming of age gay teens and what they think of all the establised gay icons.
Hopefull the worship will not be a generational thing.

  5. Have to go with Cher, Madonna to me is just a female Elvis without the talent. But, its good to see that Cher is still able to speak her mind and keep it real in 2012!

As far as talent goes…I would consider Cher unique and Madonna only wanting to shock. Are either actresses…not really…I wonder what would have happened to Cher if she never had a Sonny. I must say Madonna is a scrapper and has managed to endure, despite some public setbacks. Lady Gaga is a poor imitation of them both. More of a “fad”.
