Cher credits her longevity to luck, not talent
At 67, Cher has been a huge star for nearly 50 years now.
From her first hit record I Got You Babe (with Sonny Bono) which hit number one in 1964 to this week’s live performance on NBC’s The Voice, Cher has a career longevity second to none.
Asked what the secret of her career longevity is, Cher tells Huffington Post: ‘If you have an idea, you tell me because I haven’t got a clue. I believe that luck has a lot to do with it.’
‘There are lots of people who are more talented or whatever, but somehow this has been my path. So this is what I’m doing,’ she added.
For someone who has just been lucky, Cher has had an astounding career with a top Billboard charts hit in each of the last six decades, an Academy Award for best actress as well as Grammy and Emmy wins.
Her success and interest in her eventful personal life has led to decades of dealing with paparazzi.
Cher’s words of wisdom on dealing with it to younger stars is this: ‘You’re screwed. That’s my advice.’
‘You don’t deal with it. You just try to get a place where no one can find you and that’s your little sanctuary. I have a fabulous house that I love and it’s my sanctuary.’
