Cher: “Gay men especially…either love you or they don’t even notice that you’re on the planet”
It’s no secret that the gays love Cher and are probably a big part of the reason why her new album, Closer to the Truth, reached the number three spot in the Billboard top 200 album chart.
Why do we love her so much?
Cher speculated on this while accepting the Legend Award at the 2013 Attitude Awards in London: “Gay men especially…either love you or they don’t even notice that you’re on the planet. I think what they like…I think what you guys like, is you like a strong woman that’s having a breakdown constantly, and that certainly is me. Judy Garland’s got nothing on me.”
While Garland is certainly beloved by gays, I think Cher has remained our queen because she is the survivor that, sadly, Judy was not.
She’s 67 and still recording and still touring and still fabulous.
Long live Cher!
