Chaz Bono has lost 75 pounds since his transition
Chaz Bono sure looks terrific these days.
Since transitioning male in 2009, the actor and activist has managed to lose 75 pounds. He says he could not focus on losing weight until he was no longer struggling with his gender identity.
‘I would have never been able to do it before (transitioning),’ Bono tells Oprah Winfrey in an interview to air this weekend on OWN previewed by People.com.
‘I was too disconnected from my body, and the dysphoria that I had with my body was too much to be able to have cared enough to anything like that.’
Bono, 45, is the only child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono. Photos and video of him as a female are plentiful including many appearances on his parents’ Sonny and Cher television show.
These are not necessarily happy memories for Bono who is now an actor with several stage credits.
‘For most transgender people, we don’t really like to see pictures of us before transitioning because life was really hard beforehand,’ Bono says. ‘They’re generally not happy memories.’
‘It doesn’t, you know, bring back fun nostalgia. You just are reminded of the pain.’
