Charlize Theron reiterates her support for gay marriage; won’t marry Stuart Townsend until everyone can marry who they love

Oscar winner Charlize Theron has shown a real commitment to LGBT equal rights and God bless her for it. Straight allies are crucial in this battle for quality that has so many people in this country divided.

Charlize was the recipient of GLAAD’s Vanguard Award a few year’s back and I believe it was at that awards ceremony that I first heard her proclaim that she wouldn’t get married until it was something that was legal for everything. The actress, who remains with longtime love Stuart Townsend, was on the front lines in promoting last May’s “Meet in the Middle” gay rights rally in Fresno.

She talks the talk and walks the walk.

Here’s what she said about it this week on The View: “I don’t want to get married because right now the institution of marriage feels very one-sided, and I want to live in a country where we all have equal rights…I have so many friends who are gay and lesbian and would so badly want to get married, and I wouldn’t be able to sleep with myself.”
