Chandler Massey wraps up role of Will Horton on “Days of Our Lives” months early – the part to be recast

Just chatted with Chandler Massey about a half hour ago and heard it straight from the two-time Emmy winner himself: He filmed his final scenes as Will Horton on Days of Our Lives today.

The good news for his fans is that Chandler will continue to appear on the show through the end of December since they are filmed so far ahead of time.

He would not say what his final scene was or with who.

Chandler also confirmed that the role of Will is going to definitely be recast so the Will and Sonny storyline will continue.

‘I’m done. It’s bittersweet,’ Chandler told me. ‘These four years have been so amazing I’ve built a family here. I’m so grateful to NBC and everyone for these amazing four years It’s been my privilege and honor to work there.’

He added: ‘I’m appreciative for Days and NBC for letting me out of my contract early so I can go and pursue these opportunities that I have not been able to pursue before.’

Chandler’s contract ran through December and he was originally going to work through then and appear in episodes through March.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for the show has released this statement: “As Chandler Massey announced back in June, he will be leaving the show to further pursue his education and other entertainment opportunities. While Days of Our Lives is disappointed to lose such a talent, the show understands and supports him in his future endeavors. Due to current storyline and the timely discovery of new talent that the show feels is the right recast for Will Horton, a mutual decision has been made for the changes to taken place immediately. Chandler will always be a part of the Days family and we wish him nothing but continued success.”
