Celebrating Tracy Austin’s first US Open title which came 40 years ago over Chris Evert!
Tracy Austin’s tennis career as a top player was essentially over before she was 21.
Chronic Injuries took her out of the game prematurely but she managed to accomplish as much as any player would dream of by winning the US Open in 1979 and 1981, winning the tour championships twice, reaching the number one ranking and winning 30 tournaments overall. She was also the Wimbledon mixed doubles champion in 1980.
What I most respect about Tracy is she has always exuded such a positive attitude and remained in the public eye as a television commentator. In this video, she talks about that first US Open title during which she beat Martina Navratilova in the semis and four-time defending champion Chris Evert in the final.
Can’t believe it’s been 40 years!Thanks #MaryCarillo and @Martina @usopen @TennisChannel https://t.co/L6tHHJxSRP
