Celebrating the overturning of Prop. 8 in WeHo!
It breaks my heart that I was out of town and could not celebrate the overturning of Proposition 8 last night in West Hollywood. In this photo from Chely Wright’s Facebook page, I see the newly out country singer as well as Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black who had long advocated a federal approach to overturning the state ban.

Plenty of other sites will be analyzing the upcoming legal battle and the views of the anti-marriage folks. I’m still in the mood to bask, for a little while today, in the decision by US District Judge Vaughn Walker who declared Proposition 8, the measure banning same-sex marriage in California, unconstitutional.
The American Foundation for Equal Rights, which initiated the lawsuit, also put on the rally that featured speakers including Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman; Perry v. Schwarzenegger plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo; and attorneys Ted Olson and David Boies.
