Celebrating Robert Gant on his 58th birthday!

Wishing a happy 58th birthday to the talented and dreamy actor Robert Gant who has been working consistently on television for more than 30 years.
The first photo is from when I ran into Robert (who was with his fellow Queer As Folk alum Peter Paige) a few months ago at Pasadena Playhouse.
Besides his run as Professor Ben Bruckner in 55 episodes of Showtime’s Queer As Folk, Robert was also one of the cast members of the British comedy series Personal Affairs and has had recurring roles on such TV shows as Popular, Caroline in the City, The Young and the Restless, Good Trouble, Supergirl and 13 Reasons Why.
In all, he has guest-starred in more than 50 different series including Friends, Ellen, NCIS, virtually all of the CSI shows and on and on. The fact that he’s based in Los Angeles must be why he’s not credited as guesting on any of the NYC-based Law & Order shows!
Two of my favorite Robert Gant performances – aside from Queer As Folk and the Friends episode as Phoebe’s hot boyfriend – are the 2007 film Save Me (he also produced) with Chad Allen and Judith Light and when he starred as a gay spy in the 2008 action-thriller Kiss Me Deadly opposite Shannon Doherty.

More recently, Robert spent more than two months last fall as one of the stars of The Inheritance in Washington D.C. It is two plays, six acts, and a combined seven hour length. It ran for 60 performances over ten weeks. He portrayed the deeply complicated Henry Wilcox and described being part of the production as a “life-changing experience.”
“Because we were the first all queer cast (plus dear Nancy Robinette!) of this show, there was something that happened in our initial read, table work, and discussion about the importance of these plays,” he wrote on Instagram after the show’s run. “It’s as if a pact was made between us to give our whole selves to this undertaking at a depth that’s not easy to explain.”
Robert earned a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Performer.
