???????????? Been voting since I was 18 in 1995! (➕✖️➗ Do the math). ???? Still get excited for every presidential election. Here’s why! ???????? • • ???????? My parents are immigrants from South Korea and they didn’t speak any English (except for hello and thank you) when they moved to the US in the 1970’s. That still blows my mind. They had a dream and so much courage. They were both highly educated and attended universities in their homeland to become a nurse and veterinarian. My parents were by no means rich and, in fact, my father’s family was dirt poor and homeless, growing up in the war-torn countryside of Korea. ⛰ • • ✈️???? When my parents moved to America they started from scratch and they worked multiple jobs in Chicago to put food on the table. They juggled jobs as a taxi cab driver (imagine not speaking English and trying to drive strangers around town)… and working at a factory to assemble ???? football helmets… plus other gigs. They went to night school in the US to get certified in their professions. They raised me and my younger brother and I think we turned out OK. ????????‍♂️???? • • ???? My mom is enjoying retirement as a former ICU nurse. My dad still works six days a week and owns his veterinary clinic in Justice, IL. The community loves him and although we’ve had our differences, today I’m proud to be his son. THEY’RE IN THEIR 70’s and they VOTE every election! • • ???? ☀️ Today, I’m living my dream in Los Angeles, a city I’ve absolutely loved since I was a teenager. My cousins and aunt live in Diamond Bar. I’m happy in West Hollywood with my husband. Best part is being a journalist/storyteller with my amazing TV family @ktla5news and connecting with our fabulous viewers in the community! Thank you! Moral of the story: don’t take your parents (who gave you life)… or your right to vote for granted. Things in life will transform if you do the work and never ever give up. Don’t forget that!!!
