Happy International Women's Day! 45 years ago today, the #UnitedNations officially began recognizing this day to celebrate the movement for women’s rights.⁣ ⁣ In 2013, a book was published called, “The Accidental Feminist: How Elizabeth Taylor Raised Our Consciousness and We Were Too Distracted by Her Beauty to Notice.” The author, M.G. Lord, explains that, while many books have been written about Elizabeth’s life, few discuss how the film roles she chose consistently introduced the broad, mainstream audience to more progressive, feminist ideas for their time. ⁣ ⁣ Lord wrote, “She lived her life defiantly in public, undermining post-war reactionary sex roles; helping directors thwart the Hollywood Production Code, which restricted film content from 1934 to 1966; championing the rights of people to love whomever they love, regardless of gender.
