I still love this image because of the symbolism. Centering a black trans woman within traditionally American symbols of liberty and freedom. We know in 2020 that symbolism isn't enough. Symbolism is not a substitute for justice for all. …… But I must be able to hold seemingly contradictory ideas simultaneously to access love, empathy and joy in the face of other realities. I am reminded that I can turn up the volume of that joy today. Anything that is healthy for me and doesn't cause harm to others that brings me joy, I can gently turn up the volume on that today. … #TransIsBeautiful @disclosuredoc is currently streaming on Netflix #DisclosureNetflix
