#OnThisDay, the 1981 revival of “The Little Foxes” debuted on Broadway, starring Elizabeth as Regina. This Austin Pendleton directed production opened at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York for 123 performances.⁣ ⁣ #TheLittleFoxes is a play that was written in 1939 by Lillian Hellman and is considered a classic of 20th century drama. It is set in small town Alabama, around the year 1900, and focuses on the struggle for control of a family business. ⁣ ⁣ In a #TimeMagazine article prior to the #Broadway premiere, writer Gerald Clarke reported that a record $1 million of ticket sales were generated during the week after advertisements announced that Elizabeth would appear in the play. She received nominations for both the #TonyAward for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play and the #DramaDeskAward for Outstanding Actress in a Play. ⁣ ⁣ #ElizabethTaylor⁣ #PrincessDiana⁣ #LittleFoxes⁣ #Theatre⁣ #Stage⁣ #Play

    I wish ET would have filmed The Little Foxes for television after she was done on Broadway. Could totally see Gregory Peck as Horace to her Regina!

    I saw it. She had a chest or lung issue at the time and coughed throughout the performance. She was a trooper and total professional. It was a thrilling theatrical experience.
