Greg In Hollywood catches up with Ross Mathews

It’s always fun to catch up with Ross Mathews who became the most famous intern in the world (well, maybe second only to Monica Lewinsky) when he began doing bits for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.

Well, eight years later and Ross is still working with Jay (now in prime-time) but is also busy juggling several other gigs. We’ve spoken several times in years including at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center Gala a week or so ago.

I asked Ross what is going on in his life.

“What I’m trying to do is make a career,” he said, laughing. “I’m doing a daily web talk show called Inside Dish With Ross Mathews. We give way things away every day, we have big stars on every day. I’m doing that and I’m doing Leno, I’m doing Chelsea Lately, I have my daily blog which is HelloRoss.com.”

The Inside Dish show is part of The Insider, the companion show to Entertainment Tonight and is a lighthearted romp through the world of pop culture, movies, television and entertainment.

Ross is described as the “outsider on the inside” who takes the world on a backstage tour of Hollywood and shows everyone what it’s really like behind the cameras and curtains.

If you are a fan of the CBS reality show Big Brother, then it is on Ross’ web show that each booted houseguest would appear for a fun post-mortem.

“We became the official show of Big Brother, we partnered with them,” Ross says. “Now we’ve partnered with The Amazing Race to get their eliminated people. We talk about my favorite TV shows, we talk about movies, we talk about stars, we talk to stars. We talk to people every day and give away things every day. I like to give something from Hollywood to middle America every single day.”

What else will Ross be doing in the upcoming months besides talking to reality show castoffs?

“I’ll be doing all the award shows probably for Jay’s show. I’ve been doing them for eight years and I moved with him to the 10 o’clock spot. BTW – the Oscars, the Golden Globes are my favorite things of the year. I live for it. BTW is ‘by the way.’ I’m online so I abbreviate. LOL!”

Ross is so cute and funny! I ask him if he has changed much from the giggly intern on the red carpet who won our hearts while working for Leno.

“If anything my questions have gotten dumber which I think is fun. I think I’m really fine-tuning just how stupid I can be.”

Somehow, I think Ross is probably the smartest person in the room.
