Carson Kressley on when Oprah arranged to have his first TV crush, Lee Majors, surprise him

We all have that gorgeous guy on TV who helped us realize when we were very, very young that maybe we like boys.

For me, of course, it was Adam 12 star Kent McCord. For Carson Kressley of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fame, it was Lee Majors.

As a kid, Carson swooned whenever the star of The Six Million Dollar Man, a series about an ex-astronaut with bionic implants.

‘I remember being absolutely in love with Lee Majors when he was The Six Million Dollar Man,’ Carson told me recently at a Paley Center event. ‘He was on the cover of Dynamite Magazine which I stole from my brother.

‘I remember going to fifth grade and going, “Yeah, I really like the Six Million Dollar Man too – especially when his shirt is really open.” The other boys were like, “Uh, that’s weird.”‘

Majors’ fame in the mid-70s through early 80s was particularly intense because he was married to Farrah Fawcett when she became a phenomenon on Charlie’s Angels.

After The Six Million Dollar Man ended its five season run in 1978, the young Kressley remained smitten with the actor whose next hit series,. The Fall Guy, began in 1981.

‘When he was taking a bath in the opening credits of The  Fall Guy, I was apoplectic,’ Carson remembers.

Many years later when Carson was a TV star in his own right, he began making regular appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show doing makeover segments.

It was during one of his appearances in 2010 that he finally got to meet his first TV crush.

‘We became friends and sometimes Oprah likes to surprise her friends. Out of the blue during one of the makeover things she asked, “Who was your childhood crush?” I said, “Lee Majors.” And then she said, “You mean that Lee Majors?”

‘I looked over and she had Lee Majors sitting there and he had a single rose for me like on The Bachelor. I basically fainted. Oprah got me Lee Majors.

‘Now we’re friends and I got a Christmas card and I know his wife.’

Now 75, Majors still acts and most recently appeared in a two-part episode of TNT’s Dallas reboot.

I dug up video of his TV moment with Majors which actually also involved Alexandra Wentworth as well.
