Caitlyn Jenner: ‘Maybe I’ve made some mistakes’

Caitlyn Jenner apologized today for saying if transgender women ‘look like a man in a dress, it makes people uncomfortable.’

Caitlyn made the comment during her recent interview with Time Magazine which featured her as one of the finalists for 2015 Person of the Year.

She had also said: ‘I think it’s much easier for a trans woman or a trans man who authentically kind of looks and plays the role. So what I call my presentation. I try to take that seriously. I think it puts people at ease. … So the first thing I can do is try to present myself well. I want to dress well. I want to look good.’

Following severe backlash, Cailtyn is explaining herself in a whosay column titled ‘Still So Much to Learn.’

She writes in part: ‘In the last week many people have pointed out some mistakes I’ve made. My first reaction was to feel hurt, to wish people would give me more credit for having a big heart, and to know I don’t have a mean bone in my body. But as I’ve thought about it, I guess I’ve come to understand that maybe I have made some mistakes, and I need to make my real feelings more clear.

‘What I was trying to say is that our world really is still a binary one, and that people who look “visibly transgender” sometimes can struggle for acceptance and may be treated poorly by others. And while this may be true, it’s also something that needs to change.

‘Some people look gender non-conforming because they want to look that way – they don’t want to conform to society’s expectations. Those people have every right to look and present exactly as they choose. And then there are other people who don’t have the resources to access the medical procedures that would help them look the way they would like to look. Procedures, incidentally, that most health insurance plans refuse to cover. All of these people are my brothers and my sisters, and I am fighting alongside them, too.

‘I am guessing this is probably not the last time I will say the wrong thing, or say something the wrong way. I promise to keep learning, and to try to be more articulate in the future.’

2 Remarks

  1. Love Caitlyn like no one understands but these little snippets and sound bites are read by someone that doesn’t get it and understand it could be something that she might regret even jumping on board with. It’s making her seem like the non-deserving ‘Prom Queen’ instead of someone in the court that is just as fabulous. Whether or not Caitlyn knows or not there are alpha-females in the world and they are usually awesome gals but when you have to know when, how and why you throw things out into the world and if anyone is going to really understand what your trying to say or talk about. I was a bit lost but then I came to the conclusion that Caitlyn still is a part of that brand of glamour queens and kings ‘The Kardashians’ and not for nothing but they are ruling the world and I can’t be mad at them for that. However the Trans community has some serious heroes and Caitlyn might be one of them but she shouldn’t look down on the guys and girls that don’t have the money or means to get all the ‘alleged’ and necessary surgeries and have all the ‘high-end’ labels jumping off their skin. I think Caitlyn is AMAZING and looks fabulous but there are those Trans individuals that are never going to have Caitlyn’s glamour or instincts to be as fabulous as her but they are going to be people that are going to be out in the world dealing with all types of obstacles. I don’t think they need someone that should understand throwing their plight under the bus because it seems cool to throw shade around because you can. I don’t think Caitlyn was purposely throwing shade and being shady but I can’t lie, it came off a bit mean and unnecessary.

  2. Republican Hypocrite Caitlyn Jenner admits to ‘making mistakes’. But she’s still voting for the party who wants to reverse Obergefell. Money after all is more important to her.
