It’s been a busy weekend for Greg In Hollywood!

I try not to do too much work on the weekend and often have my weekend content done ahead of time so I can spend time with family and friends and do some goofing off.

This weekend, however, has been one worth giving up goofing off in order to schmooze and cruise for news.

On Saturday, I drove out to Malibu to attend a reception for Democratic Congressman Eliot Engel from New York (I’ll have a full write-up tomorrow) and I got to meet the new GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis who I was quite impressive and nice to chat with.

Then on Sunday, I went straight from an LA chapter of the National Gay & Lesbian Journalists board meeting to an event in West Hollywood.

There was an Uprising of Love event during which involved a symbolic torch lighting ceremony signifying that the fire will continue burning after the Sochi Olympics until LGBT safety and dignity and human rights everywhere is achieved.

One of the people lighting the torch was Dustin Lance Black who I’ve interviewed several times over the years – including the night he won the Oscar for Milk – and we chatted a bit after the event and the Uprising of Love group he has co-founded.
