Breakfast w/Greg: Roger Federer’s amazing run continues; Kathy Griffin item of the day; NOH8 party
Good morning all!
Can you believe this Joe Wilson clown? I’m tempted to turn on FOX News all day and just keep screaming at the TV: “You Lie!”
Let’s quickly move on to a far more pleasant and attractive topic: Roger Federer!
He won his quarterfinal last night at the US Open and it brought into focus two amazing streaks he has going: Roger has now won 39 consecutive matches at the US Open (he last lost there in 2003) and has reached at least the semifinals of the last 22 grand slam events he has played in. That means he hasn’t had a bad day or somehow managed to win every match leading up to the final four and in 19 of those tournaments, he has advanced to the final.
That is just plain all-time greatness. Whether he wins the Open for the sixth time in a row or not, I think it is safe to say Federer is the best there ever was with six Wimbledons, three Australian Opens and a French Open crown.
All that plus he’s the best-dressed player too!
KATHY SPEAKS MORE: Enjoyed Kathy Griffin’s interview with Frontiers IN LA and was surprised to find out that she was inspired to write her very candid memoir by two unlikely people: Food Network star Paula Deen and Joan Rivers.
“I really just felt like if I was gonna write the book, I had to go for it,” she says. “There was no point in writing the book and trying to be coy or evasive. And the kind of books that I respond to—that I kinda used as my model—were the kind of books where the author tells all. I read Paula Deen’s first book, and she’s so sweet and hilarious and obviously talented. And I met her and she said, ‘Did you read my book where I told all my secrets?’ And I read Joan Rivers’ first book, Enter Talking. I like those kind of books where you read about someone you think you know, and then after reading the book you go, ‘Oh, I didn’t know that stuff.’
And ya know, I’m 48 years old, and it’s kinda like, what the hell am I waiting for? My goal was to put stuff in there that isn’t on My Life on the D-List and isn’t in any of my specials, because I feel strongly that if somebody’s gonna shell out money for this book, it shouldn’t just be my act put on paper. If you’re gonna spend your hard-earned dollar on this, it should be some new stuff.
NOH8 PARTY: I’m disappointed at having missed the NOH8 campaign benefit party Tuesday night at Here Lounge in West Hollywood where Alec Mapa and Taylor Dayne performed. My pal Brian Putnam took all kinds of great photos including this one of Queer as Folk alum Hal Sparks (if you go to see the wonderful film Extract, Hal is in the first scene with very long hair). Hal is pictured with my big crush Michael Muhney wh0 plays Adam on The Young and the Restless. Even though the gay elements of his storyline have fizzled and we never got to actually see him kiss Rafe, I still think he’s a wonderful actor and a real dish.
