Breakfast w/Greg: Jane Lynch get LA Times appreciation; Jon Stewart clip; tennis stars need a break!
Happy Wednesday!
Just love the article on Glee star Jane Lynch in today’s Calendar section of the Los Angeles Times. TV critic Mary McNamara doesn’t do an interview with Jane, she simply writes the most wonderful appreciation of this hard-working actress who is having a career year with the success of Glee and the feature film Julie & Julia (she plays the sister of Julia Child, played by Meryl Streep).
An excerpt: For years, Lynch has been the kind of performer critics mention by name, even if she’s on-screen for three seconds, just to show how savvy we are, how attuned to talent. She’s like that certain downtown bistro that makes the best chicken curry or stuffed grape leaves or cinnamon rolls you’ve ever tasted but where you can still get a table on Saturday night.
No matter how small her role or how bad the project, you know that while Lynch is occupying the screen, you will enjoy what you are watching and inevitably wish she had more lines. She is funny, she is fearless and she works with what she’s got. All the time.
Well said!
GIVE ‘EM A BREAK! I’m a huge tennis fan but even I would be willing to wait out a 2-3 month off season to let the players rest and train for the next year. It is ridiculous how many tournaments there are starting the first week of January through early December.
That’s why three of the sports biggest stars, US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, top-ranked American Andy Roddick and Germany’s Tommy Haas couldn’t even finish their matches in Shanghai this week. Both quit mid-match because of injury. World number two Rafael Nadal has been struggling physically since May and even had to skip Wimbledon where he was the defending champion and third-ranked Andy Murray is out with a wrist injury.
The players need an off-season more than ever! When will the madness end? World number one Roger Federer wisely skipped the tournaments in Asia which I supposed you can do when you’ve won everything there is to win and have more money than God.
“It’s ridiculous to think that you have a professional sport that doesn’t have a legitimate offseason to rest, get healthy and then train,” Roddick told the press this week before he pulled up lame in his next match.
Nadal, who is still in the tournament, also weighed in: “It’s impossible to play first of January and finish fifth of December. It’s impossible to be here playing like what I did the last five years, playing a lot of matches and being all the time 100 percent without problems.”
Stop the insanity tennis power people! Lop off at least one month and let these dudes start off the new season fresh (and hot!).
FOX “NEWS” COVERAGE: And finally, Jon Stewart had an interesting piece last night pointing out that Fox all but ignored the National Equality March this past weekend in Wasshington DC . I like when things like this are pointed out because it shows just how ridiculously biased Fox is.
Thank God for Jon Stewart!
