Billy Eichner wins Breakout Star of the Year at the inaugural People Magazine Awards

The hilarious Billy Eichner is screaming his way to success.

The openly gay comic best known for his high-energy Funny or Die series was named Breakout Star of the Year at the inaugural People Magazine Awards presented this week.

‘Thank you for this beautiful silver tube,’ Eichner said after being presented his trophy by Josh Grobin at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Eichner thanked the people ‘who watch me on TV, who watch me online. I’m only here because of you and I realize that.’

Celebrities such as Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler and Neil Patrick Harris has participated in Eichner frenetic man-on-the-street quizzes that involve a lot of running and a lot of screaming at people.

His schtick was shown given its largest audience to date when Eichner took to the streets of New York City to ask people random questions during the opening of this year’s Emmy Awards with host Seth Meyers.

In addition to online, Billy on the Streets also airs on Fuse TV and earned Eichner an Emmy nomination last year for Outstanding Game Show Host.

Eichner later took to Twitter to express his thanks: ‘Wow thank you @peoplemag for giving me the Breakout Star of the Year Award!!!! I AM A PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
