Beyoncé is opposed to North Carolina’s anti-trans HB2 law but performed in the state this week anyway
Beyoncé went on with her concert in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Tuesday but wants people to know she’s firmly against the state’s new anti-LGBT law.
Artists including Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Pearl Jam, Boston, Blue Man Group, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have canceled concerts in the state in protest of the law known as HB2.
Beyoncé, who launched her The Formation World Tour last Friday, posted a statement on her website acknowledging that the concert in the Tar Heel state comes at ‘such a controversial time.’
‘… We think it is important for us to bring attention to those who are committed to being good and carrying on the message of equality in this core of controversy,’ she stated.
‘Among the many organizations doing the good work to get this bill overturned.’ She singled out Equality NC which is dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for LGBT North Carolinians.
Beyoncé praised Equality NC for ‘tirelessly’ lobbying the North Carolina General Assembly, executive branch, local governments and media and mobilizing communities on issues including marriage equality, parental rights, inclusive anti-bullying policies, employment discrimination, hate violence, privacy rights, sexuality education, adoption, domestic partnerships, and HIV/AIDS.
HB2 bans all local LGBT rights ordinances in the state.
It was pushed forward to override an ordinance in Charlotte that would have allowed transgender people to use the bathroom of their gender identification.

Sam says:
Beyonce’s career profits clearly supercedes all human equality bigotry.
Chip says:
Weak.
At least Cyndi, who will be performing here, will donate profits from her show to LGBT groups in the state and has tirelessly worked for our benefit and uses her voice to help us.
This seems like a passing press release from Bey and not much else. While it’s better than nothing, it’s really sad how often she looks the other way in the name of “more.”
