Bette Midler to sing at Oscars – for the 1st time!

Believe it or not, two-time Academy Award nominee Bette Midler has never sung on an Oscar telecast.

That will change this year.

It’s just been announced that the Divine Miss M will sing – but no one, including her it seems, knows what she will sing.

She tweeted earlier today: “Now that the news is out, what shall I sing at this years#Oscars?”

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said of Midler’s appearance on the March 2 show: “We are thrilled to have Bette perform on the Oscars for the very first time. We believe she will make our Oscar telecast an especially moving evening.”

Bette lost to Sally Field in 1980 when she was nominated for her film debut in The Rose.

Then 12 years later, she lost again – this time to Jodie Foster – for her awesome performance in For the Boys.

Bette never sounded lovelier than when she sang In My Life in a dramatic scene in For the Boys – that’s the song I think she should sing!
