Bernadette Peters to receive special Tony Award
She was passed over for a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the musical Follies but Bernadette Peters will still be center stage at the ceremony honoring Broadway’s best next month.
Miss Peters, a seven-time Tony nominee and two-time winner, will receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award.
The award goes to an individual from the theater community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations.
Peters, whose Broadway hits include Annie Get Your Gun, Sunday in the Park With George, Song and Dance, and Gypsy, starred in the revival of Follies last year. She earned raves for taking over the lead in A Little Night Music from Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2010.
