From his groundbreaking work in Black Panther to his portrayal of Thurgood Marshall, Chadwick Boseman helped paint a new picture of what’s possible. Keeping his family, friends, and fans in my prayers during this difficult time.

Chadwick came to the White House to work with kids when he was playing Jackie Robinson. You could tell right away that he was blessed. To be young, gifted, and Black; to use that power to give them heroes to look up to; to do it all while in pain – what a use of his years.

What a loss. Way, way too soon. I only spent time with you once (before Black Panther) but I was so struck by your humility, kindness, and presence that I knew you were destined for amazing things. The fact that you were out there turning in these phenomenal performances while battling a major illness- that’s a true superhero. My heart goes out to your family and loved ones. Rest in power. Your incredible work lives on.

Only the type of man Chadwick surely was, could have played icons in almost every film he did. He wore his responsibility with ease and grace and with the intention of someone who knew the importance and rarity of his power and position. What a giant amongst us. Thank fuck he saw the world explode for Black Panther. He will always be a king.
