As William & Kate and Steffi & Andre watch, tennis royalty Roger Federer makes history at Wimbledon

Whether or not Roger Federer manages to win Wimbledon this year and tie Pete Sampras with a record seven titles, the Swiss superstar has already made history.
By beating Mikhail Youzhny in today’s quarterfinals, Federer reached a record 32nd Grand Slam semifinal, surpassing Jimmy Connors who had 31. It’s an amazing record of consistency for a player who has won more slam singles titles (16) than any other male pro in history.
Federer achieved this feat in front of an audience at Wimbledon’s Centre Court that included Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and retired tennis legends Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. Agassi won Wimbledon in 1992 and reached the final in 1999 while Graf was a seven-time singles champion.
”I think it helps when royalty shows up, and other legends of the game come and see me play,” Federer said after the match. ”It’s inspiring.”

Way to go Roger, and, so good to see my favorite tennis couple back at Wimby, Andre and Steffi!

What’s Agassi doing here? According to his book he “hates” tennis. Glad we have Roger, who has never felt the need to trash the sport that made him. RF, a real champion.
