“As the World Turns” update: Noah continues to blame Luke and Dr. Oliver wonders what rabbit hole he’s fallen into

Boy, this new character of Dr. Reid Oliver has certainly livened things up on As the World Turns. What a breath of fresh air.

Pity he’s arrived at a point where the show has already been canceled but maybe that has freed the writers up to do some fun and interesting things.

The character – a brilliant surgeon but a lousy human being – is an absolute hoot! As played brilliantly by Eric Sheffer Stevens, he’s a real bitch on wheels. Oliver has has nothing but contempt for Oakdale – and especially Luke who blackmailed him into coming to town to operate on Noah. But after the doctor crashes Luke’s car and verbally abuses a police 0fficer, he finds himself in court in front of a judge.

This line made me crack up: “Your doctors went to clown college and your cops are dumb as rocks – and that is a medical diagnosis.”

After he tells the judge “if I could flap my wings and bust through your ceiling, I would,” he is deemed a flight risk and forced to stay in town. His reaction: “Where am I? What is this horrible rabbit hole that I’ve fallen down? … I am stuck in Oakhell for a month.”

Dr. Oliver may turn out to have a heart of gold but the writers did go a little too far. What doctor would leave the scene of accident without at all caring about the condition of the driver of the other car – especially a doctor’s wife? He went from being amusingly arrogant to downright reckless.

But other than that, love the character
