Are Chandler Massey’s days on “Days of Our Lives” numbered? Actor wants to return to college

On Days of Our Lives, Chandler Massey’s character of Will Horton is a college student when he’s not getting shot by a crazed murderer and dealing with the antics of nemesis Nick Fallon.

In real life, Massey had just completed his first quarter at UCLA when he was tapped for the soap role which he began in early 2010. He’s received an Emmy nomination each year he’s been on the show winning twice including last night.

Backstage at the Emmys, Massey confirmed that his contract with Days is up in December and he might have other plans.

‘I think when this is up, I want to go back to school – I want to graduate,’ he told reporters. ‘I want to have a degree. I just want to keep looking forward.’

But, added the 22 year old: ‘I’m still not 100 percent decided.’

Massey has been taking general education courses – approximately one each quarter – through UCLA Extension. He is majoring in Mandarin Chinese but is thinking of becoming a double major by adding International Business.

Whatever he decides to do, fans would likely still have Will around through next March since the show tapes three months ahead.

Chandlers’ agent is working it for a big salary increase. Of course he’ll stay if the price is right. His storyline will be less intense in the near future giving him time to take classes online.
He really should be branching out into other roles in tv and movies to capitalize on his Emmy wins.

I would like to see Chandler continue on Days and hopefully they can work around his college schedule and film his scenes accordingly. Whatever happens, I will continue to support the show and as long as Chandler and Freddie Smith are on the show as Will and Sonny.

  3. Well, if Chandler want to learn Chinese, he can ask me (well, I am from China anyway). Just joking. But I do think if Chandler does want to have a bigger career in entertainment industry, to tie to a daytime soap for too long is not very wise.

  4. I wish Chandler nothing but the best in his future. I do however hope that means negotiating a new contract with Days of our Lives. I think he has the advantage to pretty much ask for whatever he needs and basing the taping of his scenes around classes should be ok. The WilSon storyline has generated a huge fan base for the show. Men and women alike fell in love with the “Super couple in training” They have been such a positive influence to many in the LGBT community. WilSon is a team.. It just would not be the same with one gone. And Chandler IS Will Horton. The 2 Emmys prove that. The friendship, trust and chemistry belongs to Chandler and Freddie.. They ARE WilSon.

I love the fact that someone so young and successful realizes the importance of an education. The fact that it is important to him, shows that he has integrity. Not everyone is after the all mighty dollar. Good for him.
