Another reason to love birthday girl Mary J. Blige: She’s Christian AND supports gay marriage

Eight-time Grammy winner Mary J. Blige, who turns 42 today,  considers herself a born-again Christian but doesn’t agree with those who think that precludes her from being supportive of gay marriage.

‘I would say this to those people: I’m not God,’ she says in an interview with LA Confidential. ‘God said not to judge anyone lest you be judged. That’s it.’

‘Who am I to point my finger?’ she asks. ‘You’ve got to walk in love. To say you do not want people to be happy is so mean, so not me.’

Blige talks about her struggles with substance abuse and the lingering effects of being molested as a 5 year old girl.

‘God loves me no matter what,’ she says. ‘He loves me high. Sober. Gay. Straight. I can’t let the world tell me anything different.’
