Andy Roddick crashes out in Paris
Andy Roddick did manage to beat Roger Federer in Miami back in March.
But otherwise, his 2012 season has so far been a disaster.
He lost in the first round of the French Open earlier today to Nicolas Mahut, the 89th-ranked player in the world.
And no one was really surprised.
Up until last year, Roddick was the top-ranked American player and a mainstay in the world top 10.
But now the 2003 US Open champion and three-time Wimbledon finalist is ranked number 29 and won just six matches all year (he’s lost five).
The one-month grasscourt season begins soon so maybe Roddick will come to life. I’ll be rooting for him!

FAEN says:
As a Roddick fan it’s painful to watch him lose to players I know he can beat and beat easily. Clay has never been his best surface but to lose in the first round to a French vet…you have to wonder how many years of motivation he has left in him.
RichB in PS says:
See the frustration, if not the pain. Have followed
him on the courts for years.
Mike says:
I didn’t think that he would go far in Paris, but, this loss has to sting for him as he also went down in the Powerhorse event last week early, I think that this will sadly be the last year on tour for him, and, have to wonder, is there an American guy to pick up the mantle? Andy has been a staple, and, I have been a fan of his for YEARS, so, it stings me too.
