Andy Cohen hopes to host Madonna, Beyonce and Michelle Obama on “Watch What Happens Live”
We know that Oprah Winfrey has come to Andy Cohen’s boozy Clubhouse on Watch What Happens Live.
So has Cher, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and a host of other A-listers including silver fox of a BFF Anderson Cooper.
But as the nightly Bravo show turns five, Cohen reveals the dream guests he has yet to land: Madonna, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Michelle Obama.
‘We’re working on the First Lady,’ Andy tells The Hollywood Reporter. ‘She and I spoke about it and she said, “I think that’s a thing we could do later in Barack’s second term.” I loved that answer because what that said to me is, when she comes, she’s going to go for it.’
Since guests are known to toss back a drink or two as they gab, Cohen adds: ‘I’d just like to see (Mrs. Obama) drinking something other than water, frankly.’
The show is enjoying a rise in popularity with nearly 1 million viewers per week – an increase of 5% from a year earlier.
Not bad for a show that began as an online experiment for Cohen when he was Bravo’s top programming executive.
With the late night arena is crowded with such popular hosts as Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert, among others, where does Andy think he fits in?
‘I’m a cross between an enthusiast and a shit-stirrer,’ he says. ‘I have a deep love of pop culture and an excitement about it that I hope comes through. And yet, because of my background not only at CBS News and being a lifelong Howard Stern listener, those are things that I carry with me too.’
He adds: ‘When people come on our show, they feel looser, and we wind up going places that maybe they wouldn’t go elsewhere.’
