Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa on ‘Live’? The Silver Fox does not rule it out

With Michael Stratham leaving his co-hosting job on Live! With Kelly and Michael in less than two weeks, speculation over who will replace the former NFL star on the popular talk show is in full force.

Among the most mentioned: CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.

Cooper and Ripa are real-life pals and Cooper has co-hosted Live! many times in the past.

During a recent appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, a caller asked Cooper if he’s interested in the gig.

‘I love Kelly and I think Kelly’s the heart and soul of that show and it’s going to go on and continue to be great and I wish Michael the best in his new endeavor,’ Cooper said in what looked like an effort to not answer the question directly.

So host Andy Cohen, another of Cooper’s besties, asked more directly: Would he take the job if offered?

Replied Cooper: ‘Look, I’m very happy at CNN. It would be a dream to work with Kelly but no one’s offering me anything.’

Cooper has been especially high-profile lately as he has been the main anchor of CNN coverage of the US presidential campaign and moderated several debates and town hall meetings.

Also a correspondent for 60 Minutes, he has been juggling his regular duties with promoting a documentary and memoir he did with his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt.

Cohen offered encouragement pointing to the always busy Ryan Seacrest who hosted American Idol along with hosting a morning radio show and a production company.

‘You can do it all sweetie,’ Cohen told Cooper. ‘It’s the age of Seacrest – look at Seacrest.’

Cooper has done the talk show/CNN juggle before when he had a daily syndicated talk Anderson Live. The show was canceled in 2013 after two seasons.

Personally I think Kelly should go with someone fresh and newer on the scene. While Cooper and Cohen would be great, I get the impression their career interests lie elsewhere. But who knows. I wish her the best in finding a suitable co-host. “Live with Kelly” is my morning go to show so I hope it works out for her.

  2. It would be nice if Mr. Cooper can remain a serious gay journalist and not give in to becoming this stupid blondes side kick fag clown. There are more than enough gay disposable “entertainment journalist’s.” It would be nice if he can remain a true journalist.
