Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen dish on the Judds, Nick Jonas, David Beckham, love, sex, and friendship
For those used to a more buttoned-up version of Anderson Cooper, the CNN anchor left him behind for the night and in his place was a ‘feisty’ gay man ready to tell some tales.
Cooper and his best friend, the always feisty Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen, spent their weekend doing their AC2 An Intimate Evening Tour in Southern California and I was at their stop in Costa Mesa where the dirt was dished.
While these two have written memoirs and are on television every single weekday, there is still new information offered during these live appearances which they bill as ‘deep talk and shallow tales.’
It’s clear they both mingle regularly with famous people and sometimes those people are members of the same family.
Both men have stories about the mother-daughter singing duo The Judds who both came off as, shall we say, a but eccentric.
Naomi Judd appeared on Cohen’s talk show and it went so well that she ended up inviting him to Thanksgiving at her home.
When Cohen explained that he spends that holiday with his family, Naomi warned him: ‘Your blood will always turn on you.’
Separately, Cooper was invited to a party celebrating the release of Wynonna Judd’s new CD and was ushered to the front of a long line where he encountered the country music queen sitting atop what resembled a throne and receiving people.
When he was finally face-to-face with Wynonna, who he did not know, she had these words of advice for him: ‘Put on your armor.’
Cooper had no idea what it all meant but simply thanked her, did kind of a bow and hightailed it out of there.
Summed up Cohen of the Grammy-winning duo: ‘The Judds are nuts.’
The pair also dished about celebrity male crushes and Cohen was very open about his being Nick Jonas who greeted him the ‘bro’ half hug.
‘For a gay guy (the bro hug) is the most unsatisfying thing there is. I, of course, want a deep, long-lasting hug. Just hold me Nick!’
As for Cooper, his crush is David Beckham which developed as he profiled the retired soccer star for 60 Minutes. He had to play soccer with Beckham which he did badly.
Cooper was deeply embarrassed later when looking at footage for his reaction shots taken during the interview and there were none ‘where I’m not grinning like a 12 year old schoolgirl.’
Among the other revelations: Cooper has never swam in what Cohen likes to describe as “the lady pond.’
When he was asked which female he would take ‘hall pass’ from being gay for he said: ‘That wouldn’t work out for me. It’s never happened and it’s just not going to happen.’
He later spoke of how fortunate he feels to be an openly gay man at this time in history.
‘I feel incredibly blessed that I live in an age when I can love the person that my heart tells me to love.’
While Cooper is in a long-term relationship, Cohen, currently single and a self-described ‘power top,’ said he’s waiting for love to come his way.
“Being in love – the kind of love that takes over you, that you feel really hard that when it’s not there any more you feel it even harder – I think I’m weirdly waiting for that.’
