An all-star 30th anniversary video tribute to gay icon Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”

Cyndi Lauper, beloved by the LGBT community for her tireless activism, came on to the scene in a big way 30 years ago with her joyful anthem Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

To mark the occasion, some of her famous fans grabbed some Kinky Boots from her current hit Broadway musical (Cyndi is Tony Award nominated for writing the songs!) and did some serious lip syncing.

Fun to see girls like Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Katie Couric, Kelly Ripa, Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb having so much fun.

Lauper has seen it and she told People.com on Monday: “It’s so sweet, I’m crying.”

in addition to Kinky Boots, also participating were members of the casts from such current Broadway shows as Annie, The Lion King, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, The Phantom of the Opera, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and Chicago.

“The Kinky Boots cast is so funny, and all the other shows participating is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen,” Cyndi said.
