American Idol: Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon performs with Christian parents who shunned him in the audience
Most “Christian” parents who shun their LGBT get to do so in anonymity.
But not the parents of openly gay American Idol contestant Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon who has told his story to the world as he’s progressed through the competition and is now in the top six.
The son of a pastor, Harmon performed Queen’s Who Wants to Live Forever on Sunday and in the audience were his parents. After his father said: father said, “That was very powerful. It’s another great performance. I’m not very objective, but I think he’s the best one here.”
Judge Katy Perry, herself a pastor’s kid, after the performance: “You really embodied the spirit of Freddie Mercury with that performance. It was like you froze time, it was so beautiful. It was so beautiful seeing you perform in front of your parents for the first time and it’s so wonderful to see your journey.”

Of course they come around when his chance for big bucks seems within reach.

He’s one of the most purely talented singers to perform in years. There’s no artificial sounds about him like in most of the other performers today. I just with American Idol wouldn’t encourage that stupid arm waving that adds nothing to the moment. It’s distracting, and also must be distracting for the audience members who would rather concentrate on listening. It reminds me of a soccer match when the audience gets so much into making noise and singing that they lose sight of the action on the field. I think that true fans would be yelling, screaming, cheering, or just sitting back and watching (or listening).
