‘American Idol’ finalist La’Porsha Ranae’s opinion on gays: I ‘don’t really agree with that lifestyle’

Well, this is certainly a cringe- worthy way to kick off a post-American Idol career.

Runner-up La’Porsha Ranae was asked how she felt about the LGBT people and she had this to say: ‘They are people just like us. They’re not animals as someone stated before. They’re people with feelings. Although all of us may not agree with that particular lifestyle for religious reasons, whatever the reason is, you still treat each other with respect. Everybody is a human being. We should be able to co-exist with one another.’

Someone her age still using words like ‘lifestyle’?

Egads.

Then she used it again in a follow-up statement in which she talks about all her gay friends who have clearly not been able to teach her a thing:
‘I am one of the people who don’t really agree with that lifestyle. I wasn’t brought up that way. It wasn’t how I was raised. But I do have a lot of friends and a lot of people that I love dearly who are gay and homosexual and they’re such sweet, nice people. We should just respect each others’ differences and opinions and move on.’

  1. A woman who sounds like a drag queen is anti LGBT. Oh the irony.

  2. I don’t think history will remember her.

I picked up an Elliot Yamin CD at a thrift store, and I’m really enjoying it. He deserved to be a bigger star.

  3. I don’t agree with that hair so let’s call it even.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If someone asks you about gays and lesbians and you don’t agree with that lifestyle (as if we picked our orientation from page 16 of the winter Land’s End catalog), just say, “I am so thankful for all the fans and people who support me.”

In this day and age, why limit your audience by trying to explain your views when you KNOW if you have to explain your views, you are in major trouble?

I’ve listened to some of her American Idol performances on YouTube, and personally, I wish her the best. She has a great voice, even if it remains to be seen if that will translate into anything like a real career. But why through up roadblocks and obstacles before you’ve even begun?

La’Porsha, I’m glad you picked the straight lifestyle, I think it’s admirable that you were raised to be straight and I’m glad that you were actually born straight so it all worked out in the end.

But just say you’re grateful for your fans and move on.

  5. She seems remarkably ignorant to be honest. I know she’s trying to start her career and care for her child; but, I do think she should have some empathy for what people feel they are stereotyped and put down.

I always feel like minorities should have a modicum of empathy for others in similar positions. Sadly, that isn’t always the case and in many cases it’s even worse as the focus has been so inward.

  6. I can sum her up in three words: “she’s from Mississippi!” Nuff said!

  7. Let me guess ….. She is a single mother.

  8. So glad I voted for Trent! Good luck with your career, La’Porsha. You’ve already lost a bunch of fans!
