Alex O’Loughlin talks to Greg In Hollywood about new TV show “Three Rivers” and working with JLo

For those who were fans of the series Moonlight and still mourn its cancellation, sexy leading man Alex O’Loughlin returns tonight in a new CBS series, Three Rivers, that he sounds just as excited about.

“I has a bit of time off, enough time to kind of check my head and work out what the next right move was,” Alex told me during an interview a few days ago. “My relationship with CBS had gotten to a point where they knew they wanted to continue with me and I felt the same. We looked at a bunch of projects and Three Rivers made perfect sense. It’s a great story about something really important.”

Three Rivers deals with a transplant hospital and with that the emotionally complex issues of organ donation. Alex plays the lead organ transplant surgeon.

“I really hope America liks it as much as I do,” he said of the show which airs at 9 p.m. “It’s great drama and it’s exciting characters and has all the good bits of TV. But we’re also telling storiesc of people across America and across the world – every day stories of loss and survival and the really important things in life. It’s why I took this job. It challenges us and it looks at the human condition in a way that many shows haven’t.”

The show airs opposite ABC’s established hit Desperate Housewives but the hunky Aussie believes there is plenty of room for everyone.

“They are great girls and they’ve got a great show that’s survived a lot of ups and downs and they’ve been real consistent on television over the years. I hope they keep their audience and we get our audience. I can only hope for the success they’ve had.”

In addition to the series, Alex also has filmed the romantic comedy The Back-Up plan opposite Jennifer Lopez to be released in January. He has only good things to say about his very famous leading lady.

“She’s a pro,” he said. “She’s the best example of an actress. She’s punctual, she’s prepared, she’s pleasant and has a great sense of humor. She brought her family to set which is really lovely for everyone. There was a really easy feel on set all the time. The thing with Jennifer is she’s iconic in her fame. You don’t know what to expect and she’s awesome.”
