Alec Mapa to perform new show “Baby Daddy” at LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s Renberg Theatre next month

http://sduptownnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Alec-Mapa.jpgAlec Mapa happens to be one of the funniest human beings on the planet so I’m happy to promote anything he’s going to be in.

The self-proclaimed “America’s Gaysian Sweetheart” is set to debut an all-new evening of stand-up comedy: Baby Daddy. The show hilariously chronicles Mapa’s latest adventures as he marches into the unchartered territory of gay fatherhood with husband, producer Jamison Hebert.

Mapa will have three performances at The Renberg Theatre located at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center. The run is October 21-23.

The performer has had recurring roles on Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives and was a regular on the sitcoms Half and Half and Some of My Best Friends. He also appeared on Broadway in M Butterfly and in the films Connie & Carla, Marley and Me, and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.

His new show will cover how his life was turned upside down when he and Hebert adopted a 5-year old boy. We’ll find out how you go from stand-up gigs, red carpets, gay cruises, and circuit parties to being a responsible, car-pool-driving P.T.A. member?

The press release explains: If you have kids and are a little sleep-deprived, Alec understands. If picking up and dropping off the little ones at day care or dance/soccer/crafts/T-ball/computer class isn’t as thrilling as it once was, Alec gets it. If your heart melts when your kid says the cutest thing ever, hugs you tightly, makes you breakfast of chocolate milk and toast, Alec knows just how you feel … and makes it all hysterically funny. If you don’t have kids, let Alec fill you in on what you’re missing. You’ll want to run right out and trade in the cat!

Net proceeds from the run will benefit the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. Tickets available at www.lagaycenter.org/boxoffice or call 323-860-7300.
