Afternoon Greg: Joy Behar gets own show; Lauper’s online auction; Moakler on Prejean; Roddick in action
It’s an incredibly busy week. Events every night leading up to Pride. By going to the Outfest party last night, I missed the Mickey’s official re-opening night party and a Pride party with West Hollywood officials.
So many parties, so little time.
JOYFUL NEWS: I’m a huge fan of Joy Behar and am thrilled to learn that she will have her own show on CNN sister channel HLN. I’m mostly thrilled because I can enjoy Miss Behar without having to endure that idiot, Elisabeth Hasselbeck on The View.
Joy is not only wicked smart, but she’s wicked funny and never afraid to state her opinions. This new gig means a TV double shift for her. Joy has often filled in on Larry King Live. Her new show will air in the 9 p.m. slot, replacing repeats of Lou Dobbs. The show is tentatively titled The Joy Behar Show and will begin in the fall.
SHOWING HER TRUE COLORS AGAIN: The great Cyndi Lauper has launched the True Colors Fund’s Summer Online Auction, which runs until Thursday, June 25.
Among the incredible items being offered are: VIP Tickets and Meet & Greet to Bette Midler’s Las Vegas show; a Meet and Greet with Tony nominee Allison Janney with four tickets to Broadways 9 to 5 and an autographed Playbill by Dolly Parton; VIP tickets and Meet & Greets to Rosie O’Donnell and Lauper’s “Girls Night Out” tour; dinner and a show at Feinstein’s at the Regency, including a meeting with Michael Feinstein; four tickets to the Broadway revival of West Side Story, and lunch and a Tarot Card reading by Lauper.
These items outa raise some big bucks! The auction will benefit the True Colors Fund co-founded by Cyndi. The fund seeks to inspire and empower everyone — gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight — to get involved in ensuring equality for the GLBT community.
Other artists and shows that have donated items for the auction include Lady Gaga, Mark Wahlberg, Suze Orman, Jason Mraz, Michael Stipe, The Indigo Girls, Linda Eder, Colbie Caillat, Neil Sedaka, Peter Gabriel, Andy Bell, Yoko Ono, Rufus Wainwright, Kathy Najimy, Chelsea Handler, Entourage, 30 Rock, As the World Turns, LAVO Las Vegas, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

MOAKLER ON PREJEAN: It must have been such a pisser last month for Shanna Moakler, the former co-executive director of the Miss California Organization when Donald Trump stepped in to save Carrie Prejean’s Miss California crown despite the gay marriage foe’s flakiness on the job.
Moakler quit in protest after Trump’s boneheaded move. But this week, he saw the light and said to Prejean: “You’re fired!”
Her is what Moakler has to say about the latest development: “First and foremost, my faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump. I believed eventually what I intimately knew would come to fruition.”
And finally, here is a nice photo of my favorite American tennis star Andy Roddick who is in London competing for his fifth title at the Queens Club in London.
I love when tennis moves on to the grass courts. It just become such a classic game. Sadly, the grass season only lasts approximately one month and is over by mid-July. I personally would love to see another 2-3 weeks of grass court play each year.
Anyway, Queens is a key warm-up to Wimbledon which begins a week from Monday. Andy, ranked sixth in the world, has twice been to the finals of Wimbledon but lost both times to a dude named Roger Federer.
The second photo is Andy with Lleyton Hewitt who he defeated on Thursday at Queens. Lleyton won Wimbledon in 2002.
