Afternoon Greg: CBS poll good news; Joan & Melissa Rivers call ‘Apprentice’ pair “whore pit vipers”

Working today from the Insomnia Cafe and I think today is cute writers day because the place is crawling with sexy dudes with laptops! But hey, I come here for the coffee. Oh, and the pizza! Insomnia Cafe has excellent personal-sized pizzas.

Anyway, here are a few tidbits for your afternoon reading:

MORE SUPPORT FOR GAY MARRIAGE: Here’s a poll that won’t make Miss California very happy: CBS News is reporting that 42 percent of Americans now say same sex couples should be allowed to legally marry – up nine points from last month.

Support for same sex marriage is now at its highest point since CBS News starting asking about it in 2004.

There is still 28 percent who say same sex couples should have no legal recognition but that’s down from 35 percent in March. Meanwhile,  25 percent support civil unions, but not marriage, for gay couples which, frustratingly, is the official position of President Barack Obama. Will these kinds of numbers help him to change his position and officially be pro-gay marriage?

Hope so.

CAN WE TALK? I was having a beer at one of my favorite gay bar yesterday and me and some of the guys were talking about Bea Arthur (I said it was a gay bar okay?). Anyway, one of the guys and I had been to an event at the Museum oif TV and Radio about 3-4 years ago which featured a panel of Miss Arthur and her co-stars Betty White and Rue McClanahan. Mellissa was the moderator and was just an awful choice. Things got off to a bad start when Rue looked at her and said, “Who are you?”

We had a laugh because we both remembered it so well and that things seemed a bit frosty between Bea and Betty that night. They seemed far chummier at the TV Land Awards last year. What a tangent! This is supposed to be about Melissa Rivers being fired from The Apprentice and her mother, Joan Rivers, going apeshit over it.

Joan called Playboy pinup Brandi Roderick “a stupid blonde” and poker champ Annie Duke “white trash” and referred to the duo as “a Nazi and a follower.”

Melissa, who it has become increasingly clear would have no career if not for her mother, got in her own licks calling the pair “whore pit vipers.”

Ouch! But i gotta ask, what the heck is a whore pit viper?
