Afternoon Greg: Bravo Keith Olbermann; Perez Hilton gets ad pulled; Robert Pattinson kisses a man

The Insomnia Cafe is half empty today so I’ve got papers and gadgets spread out all over a big table – kind of looks like my dining room table most days!

Anyway, it’s been such a busy week – lots of news going on good and bad. I am amazed at how people like Virginia Foxz and Carrie Prejean can sleep at night with their bigoted and ignorant beliefs but then I am heartened by the likes of Judy Shepard, Howard Stern, Rob Thomas and Keith Olbermann for being first-rate straight allies in this ongoing battle for full LGBT equality in this country.

Keith, whose post-Prop. 8 commentary is legendary. last night again named North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx the “worst person in the world” for her ignorant comments on the floor of the United States House of Representatives regarding the murder of Matthew Shepard. Foxx got the dubious honor from Keith for the second night in a row after she could not muster up an apology in her cold, wretched soul. Instead, she said calling Matthew’s murder a “hoax” was a poor choice of words.

MISS CALIFORNIA’S AD PULLED: Perez Hilton is no stranger to cease and desist-type litigation but this time, he’s on the other side of a conflict. As you know, it was Perez – a judge at the Miss USA pageant a few weeks back – who helped fuel the anti-gay marriage furor that has made Miss California Carrie Prejean a modern-day Anita Bryant.

Advocate.com reports that Prejean’s ad by the ad by the National Organization for Marriage (they did the ridiculous Gathering Storm ads) using footage of Miss California and Miss USA judge Perez Hilton was removed from YouTube the same day it launched due to a copyright claim by Hilton whose real name is Mario Lavandeira.

ROBERT PATTINSON’S SAME-SEX KISS: Towleroad.com has posted this kiss from the upcoming film Little Ashes. It’s between Robert Pattinson and Javier Beltran and kind iof made me dizzy. All this swimming and twirling. By the time theh get to the kiss, I had lost my balance. The director of the film Paul Morrison discussed the same-sex love scenes with The Dish Rag: I think Rob probably found it harder than Javier, to draw the line between performance and, ah, but that was also in the nature of the part, that Dali’s sexuality was so complicated, complex and mysterious, I think even to himself, and his fear of sexuality, and if you’re playing that role, that kind of rubs off on you, so I think sex and pain were so closely entwined with Dali that to play those scenes is also hard, and the triangle sex scene is an unbelievably difficult scene. One of those scenes in everybody’s life when you’re doing something and you know it’s really really wrong, it really, it goes against the grain, but you’re doing it, so playing that scene is hard, it’s always hard.
