AfterElton.com talks to Brett Claywell about being the Kyle half of Kish on ABC’s “One Life to Live”
The Kyle-Fish storyline on One Life to Live is far superior to anything Luke and Noah have ever done on As the World Turns or anything that has happened yet on The Young and the Restless.
The writing is is good, the situation completely believable and the actors, Scott Evans (Fish) and Brett Claywell (Kyle) are terrific. AfterElton.com has posted a new interview with Claywell that I highly recommend. Here are some highlights:
On finding out his character is gay: “You start going through a lot of the same emotions I’m sure a man coming out and realizing that he actually is gay, there’s a lot of emotions you go through as an actor to play that role. When the things are coming out of your mouth, listening to what you’re saying and the emotions you’re feeling towards another man, even when it comes down to the phone call to your father saying, “Dad, I have to play a gay man. This is what you’re going to see me portraying on television.”
On working with Scott Evans: “He’s a great actor to work with. I believe this is something kind of rare, a straight man playing opposite a gay man. I’m not sure how often that happens. Scott has just been a great resource for me, and a great partner to work with. I really, really enjoy working with him, and I’m grateful that he’s the actor I was playing opposite.”
On their first kiss: ” There’s definitely an anxiety, some nervousness. There was definitely a knot of emotions inside of me because this was going to place I’ve never been before. In the preparation and the time leading up, there was definitely a lot of an emotion, but the moment we started the scene, that energy translated. The anxiety that was there changed. There really is a separation between yourself and the character, and once you change yourself into that character, all of a sudden those emotions transform, and I really believe it made the scene more dynamic. All of those emotions inside me came out in a different way.”
