After 42 years together, Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner are thinking about getting married

Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner might be getting married.

You can’t say they are rushing into anything since this brilliantly talented pair have already been a loving couple for 42 years.

Lily shared the news with E! Online’s Marc Malkin tonight at a pre-Emmy event: “Jane and I have been together for 42 years. We’re thinking maybe we’ll get married.”

The death of California’s Proposition 8 in June has them thinking about something they never thought they’d think about: “You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice. Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very very happy about it.”

Tomlin and Wagner co-wrote six comedy television specials in which Tomlin starred. They also co-wrote and produced the Grammy Award-winning album, Edith Ann: And That’s the Truth, and Grammy-nominated albums Modern Scream and On Stage.

Three years ago, Coco Peru hosted a “Conversation With …” evening with Miss Tomlin and Miss Wagner was in the front row of the packed theater. As the evening progressed, you realized just how crucial she has been to this brilliant career that has resulted in eight Emmys, two Tonys, a Grammy and an Oscar nomination among many other accolades.

“I fell madly in love with her as I laid eyes on her,” Lily said of Jane that night. “So that was that.”

  1. Wow! 42 years! I can only think of a handful of couples who have been together for over 30 years, and even fewer who have been together so long and are still happy! I wish them many blessings and many more years together.
Now, how is “Gay Marriage” a threat to the institution again?

  2. Do it best wishes

What a talented power couple! If I could invite two people to my home for dinner and listen to the conversations!! Many years ago on stage live and in person I had the opportunity to experience ‘The Search For The Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe’ the combined talent for the performance AND the words. And a second time a decade ago just to hear the words and watch the talent. Available in print and video.
