Adam Lambert’s racy American Music Awards performance resulted in more than 5,000 FCC complaints!

http://media.lehighvalleylive.com/tv_impact/photo/adam-lambert-american-music-awards-dc3b6c766b75b052_medium.jpgIn case you were wondering why ABC did not seem to get many complaints about Adam Lambert’s controversial performance at the American Music Awards back in November, it’s likely because the people who were really upset about it took their complaints straight to the Federal Communication Commission.

The FCC got more than 5,000 complaints from across the nation. While many were thoughtful and sincere, some were rude and homophobic.

I wrote about it today over at HollywoodNews.com.

6 Remarks

  1. Still shots of scenes that only lasted seconds are misleading. It wasn’t a big deal.

  2. Okay first of all, there were 1,500 complaints. Second there were 14.3 million viewers. If you read the complaints, they were far more graphic than the actual performance. Last but not least I also filed a complaint to the FCC that they and ABC were unjusitifably singling out one artist when the entire AMAs are sexually provacative and they are rated TV14 – so any parent claiming their children were an issue, are guilty of letting their kids watch a program that has historically had a lot of sexual content and is rated accordingly.

  3. Naturally it is all about protecting the CHILDREN that the Religious Right were swooning to protect especially when it appears that the RR Wingnuts simply tuned in just to complain about Adam Lambert the command to go forth and complain probably came from the pulpit. Did they get enough probably not. Good catch JLM and Jenn both of you added to the mix.

  4. ABC must have known that Adam’s performance was going to controversal since they heavily promoted his appeance and continued to promote him preceeding each commercial as ‘coming up’. He was the Finale of the show and got one of the highest ratings ever! The performance was at 11pm at night and any parent who let’s their kid stay up that late has seen far more on TV then that. ABC also needs to take responsibility for this as well.

  5. Ok. Listen. Little shots of things that only lasted a few seconds are not a fair comparison to the performance. The AMAs have ALWAYS been sexually provacative and racy. Considering the history of the show, he did nothing wrong. Second, girls and guys kiss on stage all the time. So do girls and girls. And no one files complaints and cancels their performances on other shows. That was just HORRIBLE of those networks. It’s practically discrimination based on sexuality. If someone has an issue with what is on a program, DO NOT WATCH IT. It’s that simple. Leave Adam Lambert alone. He is a very brave artist for dealing with all of your ignorance. I have nothing but respect and love for him.

  6. Seriously, how is this such a big deal?! I’m Adam’s biggest fan, and I have absolutely no problems whatsoever with what he did. That show was on a 11:00pm, so no parent should have their child up that late in the first place. It’s just a kiss and it was in the heat of the moment, so I don’t get why people are so offended!
