About Last Night: Seeing Patti LuPone live!

Still on cloud nine following Patti LuPone’s Matters of the Heart concert at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown LA.
The three-time Tony winner and two-time Grammy winner performed – to perfection – an array of music from Stephen Sondheim to Joni Mitchell and so much more. All of the songs were about love – to good, the bad and the ugly.
The only signature LuPone song that I can recall her performing was Being Alive. So no songs from Evita, Gypsy, Company, Sweeney Todd, Anything Goes, Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard or any of her other legendary musicals.
It did not matter one bit!
At 76, she still hits every note, was funny and vulnerable at times but mostly, she was powerful and sensational.
I’ve seen Miss LuPone perform in person five times now – including on Broadway in Master Class – and somehow this is the best she’s ever been. It was magic.
These photos were taken during the curtain call. I would not dare take out a camera during the show!
PS: Thanks to the Greg In Hollywood reader who walked up and introduced himself to me and my friend Edmund before the show. I can’t remember his name but I took his photo and I hope he sees it posted here. What a T-shirt he was wearing!!!
