About last night: Anderson Cooper became the first openly gay man to moderate a presidential debate

Anderson Cooper made history on Sunday at the presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

The CNN anchor became the first openly gay journalist to moderate a debate between Democratic and Republican candidates.

The Silver Fox shared the moderating duties with Martha Radditz of ABC News.

One of Cooper’s more memorable exchanges came with the embattled Trump whose campaign has been crippled by an 11-year-old audio tape from Access Hollywood in which the candidate can be heard talking about behaving in a sexually predatory way towards women he finds attractive.

‘You bragged that you have sexually assaulted women — do you understand that?’ Cooper asked.

When Trump dismissed the comments as ‘locker room-talk, Cooper asked: ‘Have you ever done those things?’

After being asked three times, Trump finally said that he had not.

Trump had said on Fox News last month that he was unhappy about Cooper being chosen as one of the debate moderators:

‘I’m not okay with Anderson Cooper because I think he treats me very unfairly at CNN. I think he is very unfair on CNN. I think CNN, they call it the Clinton News Network that’s why the ratings aren’t doing very well.’

Cooper and Radditz are being credited with sharp questioning and keeping the debate moving along far more than the moderators had managed to in the first Clinton-Trump debate last month and last week’s vice presidential debate between Republican Mike Pence and Democrat Tim Kaine.
