ABC cancels ‘Nashville’ and gay Will Lexington but producers hope show lands elsewhere

Will we ever find out what becomes of Will Lexington on Nashville?

ABC has canceled the country music drama after four seasons leaving its various storylines in the balance but the one I really care about is Will’s.

Producers of the show are hopeful it can live on through an outlet like Hulu or Direct TV.

‘We’re looking for a new home. We never give up on a great show,’ Lionsgate television group chairman Kevin Beggs wrote in an email to staff according to Entertainment Weekly.

The series was considered to be ‘on the bubble’ when it came to being renewed for a fifth season.

It had a steady and loyal fan base but ratings were not at a level that assured renewal.

Among the popular storylines on the show was that of gay country music singer Lexington (Chris Carmack) who had an emotional and dramatic journey out of the closet during the show’s run.

‘Nashville will be so cherished by so many… Trying to wrap my head around it,’ Carmack tweeted to fans on Thursday .

During the run of the series, Lexington struggled to reconcile his ambition with his sexuality.

He entered a sham marriage with a woman and even starred with her in a reality TV series.

But he later fell in love with his songwriting partner Kevin Bick (Kyle Dean Massey) and came to terms with being gay.
