ABC breaks Adam Lambert ban with an invite to “The View” and GLAAD issues new statement

The Adam Lambert news continues! Have no fear, there will come a time again when I no longer have so many posts about Adam but not yet!

So, ABC may have canceled Adam’s scheduled appearances on Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve after his controversial performance on the American Music Awards but it seems that an olive branch has been extended.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Adam himself broke the news to fans on Twitter. He will appear on Thursday’s show and be interviewed by the hosts and will perform. But there will be no chance of any live shenanagins because both will be pre-taped because Adam has a scheduling conflict and cannot be in New York on Thursday, sources said.

That night, he will appear on View executive producer Barbara Walters’ annual Ten Most Fascinating People special on ABC. Sounds like a win-win for ABC. They can appear to be no longer discriminating against Lambert get publicity for Barbara’s special. and not have to worry about the live element.

Meanwhile, I’ve just spotted this new statement from GLAAD on Towleroad and, obviously, the organization should have gone with something this clear and strong in the first place:

GLAAD President Jarrett Barriost: “We appreciate ABC’s commitment to gay and transgender inclusion in other programming. However, let us be clear that GLAAD remains steadfast in our assertion that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard by ABC as an openly gay performer. We do not support ABC cancelling Adam Lambert’s past and future performances. We urge the community to reach out to ABC and express their concerns that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard.”

2 Remarks

  1. Excellent! I hope ABC is moving out of the Dark Ages and stops letting the right wingnuts use Adam Lambert as a lightening rod to shove their conservative, paranoid, and puritanical perspective down our throats. I own a remote control and have no need for “Big Brother”. I also have the sense to know that the AMAs are not “family programming” and my kids were in bed. I don’t even let my kids watch most evening prime time programming. I don’t find violence, murder and rape good family shows, but they are on in prime time every single night. I repeat, that is why I own a remote control and use common sense.

  2. That’s what happens when you don’t know what bell to follow. On TV as on life, you can not befriend the devil and God at the same time (no podés quedar bien con Dios y con el Diablo in a popular Spanish quote), so they don’t know what to decide. Do the right thing people! Bigots are losing grasp and this is noticeable more and more, the tiny battles the haters seem to win today, are the certain defeats of tomorrow.
I guess that the haters will feel so betrayed by the channel, but hey, that’s what they are for, they are haters, they hate and complain about everything and everybody with few (very few) exceptions. And you can not plan and build on hatred. That’s why their odious energy is like the flash of a match that already had its brightest momentum, and the wind is blowing stronger…
